Our Mission & Objectives

(Good Shepherd carries out its mission in metro Phoenix in conjunction with Resurrection Lutheran church on  2602 17th Ave. Our mission statement reflects our joint mission.)
Good Shepherd and Resurrection Lutheran congregations exist to proclaim God’s Word in order to strengthen its members in the faith so that they might share the love of Jesus in word and deed to bring new souls to Christ.

At Good Shepherd and Resurrection Lutheran churches, we value:
Worship — God’s Word and Sacrament are the means by which he preserves our faith and guards our salvation. Therefore, we want to gather often for worship so God can come to us in these Means of Grace, and so that we can express our gratitude through our prayers, praise, and offering. (Hebrews 10:25; 1 Corinthians 11:24,25)
Evangelism —Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world. All people matter to God. Therefore, they should matter to us also. We want to zealously proclaim the Gospel to the lost and the straying, so that the Holy Spirit can create faith in their hearts. (Romans 10:14,15; 1 Timothy 2:4)
Spiritual Growth — Christians will want to grow in both their knowledge of God’s Word and also in their sanctified Christian living. We want to offer regular training and encouragement from God’s Word so that our members might serve Christ to the best of their God-given ability. (Matthew 28:19,20; 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 3:18)
Welcoming —When Jesus was on earth, he was found spending time with people of all backgrounds. God himself says that he does not show favoritism but rather welcomes all kinds of people into his family and into his Church. We want to welcome all people as Jesus would welcome them. Therefore, we want our members to show a kind, loving, and accepting attitude to each other and to visitors. (Romans 2:10,11; Matthew 19:14; Mark 2:15)
Encouragement — God has saved us from our sin and yet so often Christians can fall away from their faith or become discouraged by the world. God offers us encouraging words throughout Scripture that build us up and he commands us to do the same for each other. Therefore, it is important to us that we are watchful so that we can be ready to encourage a brother or sister in Christ to press on in the Word. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Romans 15:5; Romans 1:11,12)
